Lodge Balmoral 896
Making Good Men Better since 1899
Lodge Balmoral, numbered 896 on the Roll
of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, is one of the
nine Scottish Masonic; Lodges operating under
the jurisdiction of the District Grand Lodge of
Western Australia in the Metropolitan area of Perth.
Initially consecrated at Kalgoorlie, the Goldfields,
Western Australia in 1899 the first RWM being
Bro. G. McDowell. Up until 1992 the Lodge met
in Kalgoorlie and then went into recess.
The Charter was brought down to Perth where the District Grand Master Bro. Ron Kirkwood took the chair and with the assistance of Bro. Denis Hagan and other Brethren kept the Lodge in good standing by opening the Lodge with three meetings a year in the next four years. The Lodge was formed in the approved manner on Saturday 17th July 1997 where Bro. Ron Kirkwood the District Grand Master was installed into the Chair of King Solomon and he then Invested all his Office-bearers. The Brethren with their Ladies then dined at Jessica's Seafood Restaurant, Hyatt Complex. The Lodge was reopened in 1998, moving to Perth with Past District Grand Master, Ron Kirkwood taking the Chair.
The foundation members in Perth had in mind to establish a Lodge that catered for families in the true sense by not holding a traditional festive board but to take their ladies out to a Restaurant following the Lodge meeting.
The Lodge meets bi-monthly on a Saturday's at approximately
3-30 pm with visitors at 4 pm. We then either pick up or meet
our ladies at the Restaurant we have chosen for the occasion
at which non-Masonic guests also regularly join us.
In 2011 Bro. Ron Kirkwood was made a Life Member of the
Lodge in recognition of the years of service he has provided to
Balmoral.
